Se Carne, Questa Carne — Dinner Performance

An event about the responsibility of eating meat.

The subject

A dinner performance with no menu, with cooks Tommaso Tonioni and Edoardo Tilli: four printed photographic works, Birth, Growth, Sacrifice and Celebration, served at the table in place of a menu.

The point of view

Tommaso brought me in, and at an event like this I wanted to bring a real, tangible contribution: so I came up with four works in place of a menu.

The four works follow the stages of an animal's life as we see it: images made on the spot, conceived as allegories to convey the cost, the meaning, the value and the responsibility of consuming a life.

An opportunity to join an authorial vision with a world that is usually commercial, in an almost “dinner-theatre” evening.

The journey

2024: ten guests, each alone at the table, in contemplation.

The four prints are in the archive, never exhibited or sold. The project was covered by several outlets, including Artribune and Cook Inc.

Se Carne, Questa Carne (“If Meat, Then This Meat”) came out of a collaboration with Most of Italy, cook Tommaso Tonioni (ARSO) and cook Edoardo Tilli (Podere Belvedere, Chianti Rufina). The works, served at the table, introduced each course and built a dialogue between art, cooking and narrative.
