The subject

Ammazzare stanca, a film by Daniele Vicari based on the autobiography of Antonio Zagari, a former ‘ndrangheta man of honour turned state witness. Venice 2025, in cinemas from 4 December.

The point of view

Every set has its own rhythm, its own mood. It is not set by the film's theme but by the people working on it, the place you are immersed in while shooting, the time of year: everything ends up reflected in your work.

I photographed a tense and important scene, with the whole cast: a newborn child receives the ‘ndrangheta baptism, and the violence stays implicit.

I wanted a sense of suspension to come through, a kind of anxious waiting.

The journey

Unit stills photographer, 2024–2025, on set in the forests of the Sila, near Camigliatello Silano.

The images were used at the Venice Film Festival, by the press and the distributor, and on the social media of several lead actors.

Unit Stills Photographer: Mompracem / RAI Cinema

Unit stills photographer for Ammazzare stanca, the 2025 drama directed by Daniele Vicari. Produced by Pier Giorgio Bellocchio and the Manetti Bros. for Mompracem with RAI Cinema, with support from the Emilia-Romagna Film Commission and the Calabria Film Commission, released by 01 Distribution.

The film was shot over eight weeks between Emilia-Romagna — Pianoro, Bologna, Marzabotto, Grizzana Morandi, Zola Predosa, San Lazzaro di Savena, Sasso Marconi, Casalecchio — and Calabria — Lamezia Terme, Spezzano della Sila, Camigliatello Silano, San Luca, Bovalino. The principal cast includes Gabriel Montesi as Antonio Zagari, Vinicio Marchioni as his father, the boss Giacomo, Selene Caramazza, Thomas Trabacchi, Andrea Fuorto and Rocco Papaleo as Don Peppino Pesce.

Presented in official selection at the 2025 Venice International Film Festival in the Spotlight section, the film tells the true story of a young man raised inside the ‘ndrangheta who chooses to rebel against his criminal destiny through writing and testimony.
